When one slips it is usually the peg or the batten that has gone, not the slate. Georgian limestone walls underneath move slowly and open up joints, and cement mortar makes that worse because it traps water in the stone instead of letting it out.
That means most work here is careful rather than quick. Salvage what can be salvaged, match what cannot, and use lime where lime was used originally. Nearly every property is in the conservation area and plenty are listed, so the covering usually has to stay like for like.
