Chimney work
A chimney takes more weather than anything else on the house. It is exposed on four sides and the mortar goes long before the brick does. Once the joints are open, water soaks into the stack and comes out as a damp patch in the bedroom, which people blame on the roof.
Most chimneys need repointing and new flashing rather than rebuilding. If the brickwork is loose or the stack is leaning, we rebuild from the roofline up with the original bricks where they are sound. If you never use it and do not want it, we take it down and make the roof good so you cannot tell it was there.

Stack rebuilt and repointed
Roof made good around the stackOften, yes. If the damp is on the chimney breast or in the room the stack passes through, it is usually the flashing or open mortar joints rather than the roof covering.
If you use the fire, repair it. If it has been capped for years and is only costing you maintenance, taking it down is often cheaper than repointing and re-flashing it every decade.
For anything more than a quick look, yes. You cannot safely work on a stack off a ladder. The scaffold cost is in the quote up front.
A rebuild from the roofline up is usually two to three days on site, plus the scaffold going up and coming down. Repointing and flashing is normally a day.
Ring Stanley and describe the chimney and where the damp is showing. He will tell you whether it needs repointing, flashing, or taking down.
