Patios and driveways
Nearly every failed driveway we get called to went wrong below the surface. Not enough dug out, no sub base worth the name, and nowhere for the water to go. A year later the blocks are rutted where the car sits and weeds are coming up through the joints.
We dig out to the depth the job actually needs, lay and compact a proper stone sub base, then screed and lay on top of that. Falls are set so water runs to a drain or a soakaway rather than towards your house. Edges are haunched in concrete so nothing spreads.

Edges haunched and finished
Brickwork tidied alongsideA normal drive is usually four to seven days. Digging out and the sub base take the most time. Block laying itself is quick once the base is right.
Not for a permeable drive, or one where water drains to a border or soakaway on your own land. If you want a sealed surface draining to the road you may need permission, and we will tell you before we start.
Not for years if it is built right. We use a membrane under the sub base and kiln dried or resin jointing sand on top. The odd seed blows in and sits on the surface, that is normal and brushes out.
Sometimes, but usually it is a false saving. Laying on top raises the level next to your damp course and hides whatever is failing underneath. We will look and tell you honestly which way is better.
Ring Stanley with rough measurements and he will give you a realistic figure for the paving, including the digging out and the muck away.
